The A Team suffered a late 17-14 defeat to Cadishead Rhinos in a hard-fought contest.
The Lions started strongly with Cam Hall crossing first to give the home side the early advantage. Reece Derbyshire extended the lead with a well-worked try, and Danny Royle added another in the second half, putting Westhoughton firmly in control.
Despite a heroic effort from the Lions' forwards, who put in tremendous shifts throughout the match, fatigue began to take its toll in the closing stages. Cadishead mounted a determined comeback, scoring twice to level the match before landing the decisive blow in the final minutes.
The late collapse was a cruel end to what had been an impressive performance from Westhoughton, whose forward pack showed outstanding commitment throughout the 80 minutes.
