Match Report
The A Team delivered a spirited performance against Culcheth, matching their aggressive forward pack for the majority of the game. First-half tries from Tony Eaton and Josh Thompson, both converted by Thompson, had the Lions trailing just 16–12 at the break.
Early in the second half, Culcheth extended their lead to 22–12, but FL stayed competitive well into the final quarter. However, fatigue began to show, and the last 10 minutes saw the home side ship 18 unanswered points, finishing with a 40–12 loss that didn’t reflect the effort or competitiveness shown throughout.
The forward pack in particular stood tall, putting in “unreal efforts” to meet Culcheth’s physicality. Some promising signs were clear, and with improved fitness and attention to the finer 1% elements—such as sliding the defensive line and front-on tackling—this side is heading in the right direction.
Opposition Man of the Match votes went to:
1. Cal Mewes
2. Aaron Latham
3. Tony Eaton
Honourable mentions to Alex Hodgson and Dan Farr who were unlucky to miss out.
The A Team look ahead to their next match @ Home against Liverpool on 28th June. With strong numbers at training, confidence is high for a bounce-back performance.
